Moving Day Essentials
As moving day comes closer you are flooded with a number of mixed emotions from happiness to sadness to excitement to stress. With a million thoughts flowing in and out of your head, it can be easy to forget to pack a few important items on moving day. And you definitely don’t want to find out later that you’ve left behind items that are personal to you or that you have a close emotional connection to.
Keep aside one or two boxes or bags till the final day of your move arrives so that you can pack whatever last minute essential items into those boxes or bags which you can carry straight with you in your car to your new home.
- Snacks – you’ll need to conserve your energy on moving day so keep aside some of your favorite snacks on that day. You’ll also have to clear out your refrigerator on the last day and don’t leave behind food like bread, eggs, and milk that are new and can be used. Fruits, nuts, granola bars and plenty of bottled water are what you’ll need.
- Medicines – make sure to carry whatever medicines you may need in case of a medical emergency. Moving day can be quite stressful so keep pills for stomach aches and headaches in handy. Hiring the right movers can reduce the stress of moving. Inhalers, aspirin, and medicines for the kids are highly essential to keep with you at all times and make sure you don’t pack them into one of the boxes.
- Paper products and toiletries – keep paper supplies in handy as soon as you’ve moved into your new house and until you can find the time to arrange your kitchen supplies. Paper towels, napkins, cups and plates and toilet paper are some of the paper product essentials that you will need to pack on or before moving day. Also remember to pack all your toiletries on moving day – toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, shampoo, soap, etc. as you’ll be needing these essentials as soon as you move in.
- Tech stuff and important documents – make sure to pack your mobile phone, laptop, chargers and any other electronic items that you may use on a daily basis as you won’t pack these items but instead carry them with you on the final day of moving. Keep all important documents like your birth/marriage certificates, passport in a separate box and make sure its labeled so that you don’t forget in on moving day. Hiring a good moving company will help you get your things into boxes meticulously.
- Change of clothing – you don’t want to pack all your clothes, undergarments into boxes and bags only to find that you’ve moved into your new home and don’t have a fresh change of clothes ready for work the next day. Set aside at least 2 sets or changes of clothes so that you’ll have something to wear for the first one or two days in your new house until you start unpacking your boxes.
