When you decide to move, one of the biggest hassles you will face is in regards to packing. It can be a fretful time as you try to figure out what needs to be done and get working as soon as possible. However, that does not always have to be the case. If you prepare from beforehand, you can ensure that the process moves more thoroughly and in an efficient manner. The first thing you need to do is prepare a checklist of everything that needs to be done. This way you ensure that you can move systematically, while leaving nothing out.
- A Month Before You Move: Not everyone has a month to pack before they leave, and if you are one of the few that do, then consider yourself very lucky. You now have plenty of time to pre-pack, that is, get those things that you will definitely not be using in the following month out of the way. These items usually include clothes and items that you do not need for the season – such as winter clothes in summer. In addition to this, you can also remove any specialized tools you may own that you do not need to work with on a regular basis. Collectible items that you own can also be stored away from a month before, to ensure a better time packing in the days to come.
- Three Weeks Before: This is the time to start shifting out those items that you will not have time to use in the weeks before moving day. Start by gathering up all your books and CD’s and DVD’s. Although it may not seem like it, you will probably not have the time to invest in these before moving. In addition to this, consider packing up excess plates and other kitchenware that you do not need to use on a regular basis.
- Two Weeks Before: Moving day is fast approaching, but it still feels as if you have enough time. Do not be fooled – time will fly by before you know what has happened. This is the time to start packing those items that do not see much use around the house. Items such as toys for the kids, jewelry or office supplies – notebooks, pen, paper and the like – gather all these and safely store them away so you can start to focus on packing the bigger stuff.
- One Week Before: You are almost ready to move. And now that a lot of your packing is already underway – you can focus on packing up what is left behind. From your everyday clothes to remaining kitchenware, furniture to any medication that you own – you can now focus on packing these.
- Two Days Before: The time has come to pack up those items that you use on a regular basis. These include electronics, bathroom essentials, any furniture that is yet unpacked and of course all the little knick knacks around the house. Make a list to ensure that nothing gets left behind and soon you will have packed everything.
- Moving Day: Finally it is the day to move, and you should have packed up everything by now. You can now rest easy and enjoy moving into your new place. Remember to ensure that nothing gets left behind, and pack up anything that is still left out.
